Artist Statement
Ève K tremblay is known primarily for her photographic work. Since 2007, However, her practice expanded to also include video, performance and installation using objects, texts, drawings & collages. Her work is inspired by literature, cinema, and science. The psychic states through which we perceive the world and where we situate ourselves are examined from a poetic point of view.
Process Statement
The majority of Ève's works are photographic but other ones explore videos, performances, texts, books, and collages. Her photography draws from candid photography as well as stage photography heritage, using medium and large format (4x5) cameras on various locations. The scenes staged through actions and invented rituels are also open to serendipity happening within a concetual framework. The videos are conceived as experimental home movies.
In recent years her work was shown among other places at Le Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec, Le Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montreal, Kunstverein Wolfsburg, Musée d’art Contemporain du Val-de-Marne, Prague Biennale 5, Bergen Kunsthall, Tromso Kunstverein, The Richard J. Massey Foundation for the Arts and Sciences in New York City, and recently at Ruth Phaneuf Fine Arts in NY, Galerie Hugues Charbonneau in Montreal and Kunstraum Kreuzberg, Berlin. Her work has been published in numerous Canadian publications, in Kunstforum, and was reviewed in The New York Times, Art Forum critic picks and last spring in a large profile in Canadian Art Magazine. She was on the 2012 Québec long list nomination for the Sobey Art award. A Monograph of her works entitled Tales Without Grounds was published by the CEEAC in Strasbourg & Centre d’exposition Plein Sud in 2006. She has also published two artist books: Memory Mapping Hope Gardens (Location scoutings) (2010) as well as With Books(2012). Current shows include Becoming Book at The Dunlop Art Gallery, Regina (SK), at Ruth Phaneuf Fine Arts in New York, and at the Kaminsky Foundation in the Mana Contemporary Art Center, NJ. Other upcoming shows will be held in 2013 Radiator Arts, New York, The Moss Biennale in Norway (section curated by Erlend Hammer), a solo show curated by Zeljka Himbele in Bol, on the island of Brac, Croatie (July-August 2013) and a private solo show at the headquater of Le Cirque du Soleil in Montreal (fall 2013).
Ève K. Tremblay currently lives in Union city, NJ, 15 min from Time Square. She works in her studio at the Mana Contemporary center in Jersey City, NJ, and where her works take her (most of the time NY, Montreal & Berlin (where she shares a pied à terre)
She has also worked as a still photographer in the film & TV industry in Montreal, and she has also done portraits and a project of art integration to architecture (Québec 1% programm for the creation building of Marie Chouinard Dance Company).
